US President Donald Trump developed a morbid obsession towards the prestigious Nobel Prize. In the last two years, he has repeatedly campaigned for himself to win the coveted honour as he claimed to have stopped several wars between rival nations across the globe.
After failing to win the award on both occasions, Trump appears to be deeply hurt and his frustration is evident in his recent comments on the committee. He lashed out at Norway and the Nobel Committee while speaking at a campaign rally in New York.
Trump expressed deep anger over the committee’s decision. He called the selection process a total disgrace and stated that the Nobel Peace Prize has been forever ruined by political bias.
He strongly criticized the committee for selecting 85-year-old South African jurist of Indian Tamil origin, Navanethem Navi Pillay. He referred to the former UN human rights chief as a “mystery person” that nobody had ever heard of before.
The US President insisted that he deserved to win eight separate Nobel Peace Prizes for stopping major military conflicts around the world. He said he prevented full-scale wars between India-Pakistan, North and South Korea, Japan and North Korea, as well as China and Taiwan.
He also took credit for stopping Iran from getting nuclear weapons and saving millions of human lives. In his fiery address, Trump warned that the United States will not forget Norway’s decision to overlook his peace efforts.
These comments come a few hours after Nobel Committee gave the 2026 award and 12 million Swedish kronor cash prize to South African jurist Pillay for her long work in international law.
