Vatican Pope Undergoes Surgery For Lung Cancer

Pope Leo XIV, head of Vatican City and the supreme catholic pontiff, has reportedly underwent a surgery on Tuesday at the Agostino Gemelli University Hospital in Rome after he was recently diagnosed with the first stage lung cancer. Doctors stated that the operation was successful and he is stable.

The Pope publicly revealed the discovery of the nodule during his Sunday prayer and informed that doctors had caught it early and recommended surgical removal. During the ninety-minute procedure, doctors removed the lower lobe of his right lung.

The surgical team was led by chief thoracic surgeon Professor Stefano Margaritora at Gemelli Hospital. Medical reports confirmed that the entire operation went smoothly without any complications. The Pope woke up normally after the surgery and returned to his private recovery room.

Vatican officials confirmed that Pope Leo will remain admitted in the hospital for about a week to rest and heal. All public audiences and official papal events have been cancelled through October 20. Doctors will closely monitor his recovery over the coming days before deciding when he can return to the Vatican.
