US Vice President JD Vance, who recently triggered a diplomatic controversy with his unnecessary remarks on H-1B Visa holders, has now clarified on his choice of words and stated that they were not aimed at people of any particular nation.
The entire controversy began when Vance used harsh words while talking about foreign work programs. During a discussion on visa rules and local job markets, he described people working on H-1B visas as foreign indentured servants.
These comments quickly sparked a massive debate across political circles and among immigrants. The Indian government also strongly objected to these remarks and called them deeply offensive.
After facing heavy backlash and diplomatic pressure, JD Vance tried to clear the air about his stance and portray the remarks as less serious than they are being perceived.
During a town hall event, he admitted that his way of speaking was not perfect and took full personal responsibility for it. He tried to soften the tension by talking about his personal connections and mentioning his wife’s family who moved to America from South India.
He stated clearly that he deeply loves and respects his Indian in-laws and values immigrants who want to build a good life in the country. He further explained that his real target was never the individual visa holders who come legally to work hard.
Instead, Vance blamed the broken corporate visa system and the large companies that abuse the rules for cheap labor. He argued that current regulations give employers too much control over workers because employees fear losing their jobs and getting sent back home if they complain about bad work conditions.
