Record Number Of Tech Workers Return To India From USA

Amid growing uncertainty about the future due to strict immigration policies and an acute job crisis, thousands of Indian tech workers are choosing to return home from the USA. So far, a record number of IT professionals have returned to India between January and September this year.

As per reliable sources, about 12,700 white-collar workers have returned till now. This number is getting very close to last year’s record of 15,100 people and experts say 2026 will break all previous records soon. In just 9 months, 84% of last year’s number has been crossed. By the end of this year, it likely to way more than the overall tally of 2025.

The major reasons behind this reverse move are growing visa problems and constant layoffs in big American tech companies. Among foreign immigrants, Indians form the major chunk of employees in IT sector in USA.

It is a known fact that Trump’s administration is trying every possible way to make life difficult for immigrants with stringent laws and policies. Majority of the Indian workforce feel uncertain about their future and green card process in America.

Because of this high anxiety and fear of losing jobs suddenly, many professionals are deciding that coming back to India is a safer option for their long term career. Frequent stories of Indian origin families leaving behind their properties and taking a flight back home have been making headlines.

However, moving back to the Indian job market is not going to ensure immediate jobs for these NRIs as the hiring market is experiencing a recession period due to various factors like AI revolution. Despite all this, the comfort of staying with family and job safety in India is making the move worth it for NRIs.
