Farmers’ Suicide: AP at 3rd, Telangana at 4th place

The AP and Telangana governments claim themselves as pro-farmers sarkars but the suicides of farmers are not stopping. According to Accidental Deaths & Suicides in India (ADSI) report, Andhra and Telangana stood in third and fourth places respectively in farmers’ suicide.

A total of 5,567 farmers have committed suicide in 2020 and Maharashtra topped the list with 2,567 suicides. Karnataka was the second state with 1072 deaths while Andhra reported 563 deaths of farmers and Telangana posted 466.

Coming to Telangana, 419 were men and 47 women farmers. In 2019, Telangana stood at fourth spot too but the said year reported 499 deaths. When comparing 2019 and 2020 deaths, there is a decline trend.

And in 2018, Telangana recorded suicides of 908 farmers which was the biggest in the TRS government’s regime. It was the same year, the TRS government introduced ‘Rythu Bandhu’ a small crop investment scheme for farmers and it brought down the suicides.
