In one of the rarest incidents, AP CM YS Jagan obliged to the request made by opposition leader and TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu. This morning Jagan inaugurated 13 new districts and along with it 21 new revenue divisions were accorded.
Kuppam which happens to be Chandrababu’s Assembly constituency, is made a new revenue division. ‘On the appeal made by Kuppam MLA, we included Kuppam in the list of 21 new revenue divisions on Monday.’ said YS Jagan. However, Jagan criticised Chandrababu that despite being MLA for seven consecutive times and Chief Minister for 14 years, the TDP leader failed to make Kuppam a revenue division.
CM Jagan also scored brownie points by naming one district after TDP founder NTR which was a long pending demand and Parvathipuram Manyam, the tribal region was given the name after freedom fighter Alluri Seetharama Raju.
Nonetheless, the TDP chief was unimpressed by CM Jagan’s reorganisation of districts. “The division of districts was done in an unscientific manner and purely based on political benefit,” said Chandrababu in his first reaction. Naidu further stated that after TDP forming the next government, it would restructure the districts again.
It was the same reaction from Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan. Citing the example of Hindupur, Pawan added that this place would have been made a district headquarters. Initially the YCP government was in favour of granting headquarters status to Hindupur but they changed their mind at the last minute.
