The central government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, announced that the existing Parliament building would be demolished and a new one would be built in the same place. The central government submitted an affidavit to this extent in the Supreme Court on Tuesday.
Stating that the existing building was a 100-year old one and that some issues were raising in its maintenance, it said that in case of any fire mishap, it would become a big problem.
The affidavit also stated that the existing building’s construction began in 1921 and completed in 1937. As many as 100 years passed away. Hence, the building does not suit the current requirements and technological needs, the central government added.
