‘Rashtrapatni’ Comment: Parliament Erupts In Protest!

President Murmu

Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury calling President Droupadi Murmu ‘Rashtrapatni’ created a huge uproar in the Parliament. Union ministers Nirmala Sitharaman and Smriti Irani lashed out at Congress and Adhir Chowdhury for the comments and demanded to issue an unconditional apology to President Murmu for insulting the highest office.

With the issue turning big, Adhir Chowdhury posted a video on social media that he choked while pronouncing ‘Rashtrapati.’ “We know whoever is the President of India be a Brahmin or a Muslim or a tribal, he/she is Rashtrapati for us. I was addressing the journalists at Vijay Chowk about the Congress protest plan against ED questioning our party President Sonia Gandhi. I told them that we were going to meet the Rashtrapati. I said Rashtrapati first and then the word ‘Rashtrapatni’ came out of my mouth. I informed journalists that it was a mistake and not to show this. But if a word comes out of my mouth and I said the word only once,” said the Congress leader Adhir.

The Congress leader accused the BJP of blowing this controversy out of proportion and trying to make a mountain out of a molehill because it is trying to divert the topics of inflation and price rise that are being demanded for a debate in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.

Severely objecting the comments on the President, BJP ministers Nirmala Sitharamana and Smriti Irani targeted Sonia Gandhi. The Congress President tried to settle the issue by reaching out to BJP MPs in Lok Sabha. But Sonia Gandhi received heated slogans against her from the BJP MPs. The atmosphere in Lok Sabha changed all of a sudden and the Speaker adjourned the house to find a solution.
