In a veiled attack against the ruling YCP dispensation, the Jana Jagarana Samiti, a Vizag-based people’s organization, has called for a novel competition. The JJS has announced “Rs 3 lakh for 3 questions” meaning those answering each of the questions would be given Rs 1 lakh.
The questions asked by the JJS are: Where is AP’s Capital? , When will Polavaram be completed? And Who will save Vizag Steel Plant from divestment?
These questions reflect the complacent attitude of the YCP government on the three issues. During bifurcation of the state, there were several issues raised by the public in Andhra Pradesh, with regard to the capital and the state’s lifeline project, Polavaram.
Responding to the demands, several promises were made in the AP Bifurcation Act 2014. However, none of the promises or provisions incorporated in the Act have been fulfilled even after nine years of the division.
In 2014, the TDP government tried to build the capital in Amaravati by taking up a big exercise of ‘land pooling’. It pooled land from the farmers and planned to build the capital. At the same time, the Polavaram project works were also expedited and they were reviewed on a day-to-day basis.
In 2019, though the YCP came to power, YCP president and Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy brought up a new proposal of ‘three capitals’ but not even of the three has taken shape till now. Even the Polavaram project works have not progressed any further since the TDP government left them.
Coming to the Vizag Steel Plant, there is talk that the divestment of the PSU has already begun and cannot be stopped, despite severe opposition by the political parties, people’s organizations and the VSP employees.
The YCP government seems to be more focused on building its vote bank than the development of the state.
