Women Reservation Bill Passed in Lok Sabha With 454 – 2 Votes

The Women Reservation Bill passed in Lok Sabha with 454 Lok Sabha MPs voting in favor of the bill and two votes against it.

‘The Narishankti Vandan Adhiniyam’ bill passed the Constitution in the special session of the Parliament on Wednesday. The bill seeks to provide 33 percent reservation to women in Lok Sabha and state Legislative Assemblies.

The opposition parties extended their support to the Bill but stressed on the need for a caste census to ensure reservation for women from Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and OBC. Rahul Gandhi also called it an ”incomplete’ bill without reservation for OBC women.

Amit Shah addressed the House after Gandhi and defended the Bill saying that this Bill would mark the ‘start of a new era’.
