In exactly one month, Telangana is set to witness the third term of assembly elections after the partition of the state in 2013. The ruling Bharatiya Rashtra Samiti party is jostling with the two leading national parties, BJP and Congress, to regain power for the thrid consecutive time. The polls will take place on November 29th and the results will be declared on December 3rd.
Ahead of the elections, the current Chief Minister and president of BRS, K. Chandrashekhar Rao seems to be very upset with the flurry of deflections in his party. It is well known that many of the second-rung leaders of BRS in various constituencies have resigned from the party and joined the Congress in the last few days.
Though KCR has been warning his ministers and senior leaders to coordinate with the disgruntled partymen and ensure that they don’t leave the party during this crucial phase, there is no stopping these deflections, which is likely to dent the chances in the polls. Reportedly, KCR is quite unhappy with the way his leaders are dealing with these deflections. He is said to pulled up these leaders and reprimanded their inability to calm down the infighting within the party cadre.
That the BRS party has set up a special war room in every constituency to know the public pulse and also to analyze the party functioning ahead of the polls is known news. KCR and his team are minutely monitoring the election campaign of BRS all over the state through these specialized rooms. They are making a note of the aggrieved leaders at village and mandal levels and alerting the MLAs concerned to coordinate with them. However, these MLAs are least bothered and seem to be not paying heed to KCR’s suggestions. They are adopting an ‘I don’t care KCR’ approach.
Despite doing a lot of groundwork and deploying many strategies, many key leaders left the party in the last couple of days in some of the major constituencies like Nalgonda, Malkangiri, LB Nagar, Zaheerabad, Nagarjuna Sagar, etc. Moreover, some of the prominent MPTCs and ZPTCs also resigned in the last few days. As these leaders are finding shelter under the Congress party, KCR is sensing that BRS might be in big trouble as it is not going to be an easy sail as predicted a few months ago.
With many constituencies likely to see a close contest between BRS and Congress, every vote will be crucial for either of the parties. So, the large number of resignations and sudden deflection of important leaders will not only demoralize the party ahead of the polls but also impact its winning chances. Hence, the recent developments are giving sleepless nights to KCR and his party.
