The TDP has announced its decision not to participate in the upcoming Telangana Assembly elections. This move comes as TDP’s leader and former Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu remains in judicial custody due to an alleged skill development case, making it challenging for the party to focus on the Telangana polls.
Chandrababu Naidu conveyed this decision during a meeting with TDP Telangana unit president Kasani Gnaneshwar. He instructed Gnaneshwar to explain the circumstances leading to the party’s withdrawal from the elections to the party leaders in Telangana.
Chandrababu Naidu has been under arrest since September 9 in connection with the skill development scam, and the Crime Investigation Department (CID) is investigating his alleged involvement in other cases as well. The TDP and Naidu’s family are currently engaged in legal battles across various courts.
Previously, there were indications of the TDP’s intention to contest a limited number of seats in Telangana, with TDP MLA and actor N. Balakrishna, who is Naidu’s brother-in-law, showing enthusiasm for the elections. However, Naidu’s recent decision to abstain from the contest may have political ramifications.
With the TDP’s withdrawal from the race, the spotlight may shift to other political players in Telangana, such as Revanth Reddy and the Congress party. TDP’s decision could potentially benefit the Congress, especially among settlers who may not be pleased with Naidu’s arrest and the ruling BRS.
