Nizamabad: MLA Candidate Commits Suicide

In the midst of the fervor surrounding the Telangana assembly elections, a somber incident unfolded in Nizamabad, casting a shadow over the political landscape. An independent MLA candidate, Kannayya Goud, took his own life at home on Sunday morning. The Nizamabad constituency has been a focal point for political competition between Congress, BRS, and BJP.

Kannayya Goud, known for his active participation in farmers’ movements in the region, recently filed his nomination with their backing. However, the campaign took a dark turn as Goud faced financial challenges, reportedly accumulating debts from various sources, including loans from mobile applications. Family members revealed that Goud had been harassed by agents representing these loan apps, leading to immense distress. The mounting pressure became unbearable, prompting Goud to commit suicide.

The tragic incident sheds light on the complexities faced by grassroots candidates during election campaigns, emphasizing the need for support mechanisms and awareness regarding the mental health challenges that can arise in the midst of political endeavors. Police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding Kannayya Goud’s untimely demise.
