Viral: TDP Flags, Jai Babu Slogans At Revanth Reddy Rally

Despite not participating in the Assembly elections in Telangana, the Telugu Desam Party’s (TDP) flags garnered attention during the Congress’ victory celebrations as soon as the early results favouring it. Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) chief Revanth Reddy left for party headquarters Gandhi Bhavan in a huge rally after it became clear from the trends that the party is set to wrest power from Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS). Earlier DGP Anjani Kumar met Revanth Reddy and congratulated him on his victory.

Supporters carrying TDP flags joined Congress workers in festivities at the residences of A Revanth Reddy and the Congress headquarters, Gandhi Bhavan.

It can be noted that Revanth Reddy was in the TDP before joining the Congress. He is known as a close aide to TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu.

This marked the first instance of the TDP abstaining from the Telangana Assembly elections. The party attributed its decision to the arrest of its leader and Chandrababu Naidu in Andhra Pradesh in connection with the AP Skill Development Corporation scam.

In the 2018 elections, the TDP had contested in alliance with the Congress, but the alliance suffered a significant defeat, with the TDP securing only two seats. Subsequently, both TDP MLAs defected to TRS (now BRS).

Political analysts speculate that traditional TDP supporters, especially those from Andhra Pradesh residing in Hyderabad and other parts of Telangana, voted for the Congress this time.

Furthermore, TDP supporters in Telangana expressed dissatisfaction with the restrictions imposed by the BRS government on protests against Naidu’s arrest in Hyderabad. IT employees and settlers seem to have voted for the Congress. The irony is BRS won a majority of seats in Hyderabad and Rangareddy followed by BJP and MIM.

However, TDP leaders and party workers start celebrating Revanth and Congress victory in Telangana.
