Union Home Minister Amit Shah has expressed optimism for the BJP’s prospects in Telangana, setting a target to secure 10 seats in the upcoming parliamentary elections. During his one-day visit to Hyderabad, Shah emphasized the need to win six additional seats, in addition to the current four held by the party. He outlined a goal of achieving a 35 percent vote share in the state.
Shah, along with MPs Kishan Reddy, Bandi Sanjay, D Arvind, and Soyam Baburao, conferred with Rajya Sabha MP Laxman and other senior leaders. They discussed the strategy for both retaining the existing four seats and contesting strongly in the remaining six, totaling 10 seats. Shah emphasized the importance of selecting formidable candidates for the remaining seven seats, bringing the total to 13.
Acknowledging the challenges faced in the 2018 elections, where BJP secured only one assembly seat, Shah highlighted the party’s aspiration to win 8 seats in the latest elections. He acknowledged the party’s second-place position in certain constituencies. Shah expressed confidence that with collective efforts from party leaders and members, achieving a 35 percent vote share would not be insurmountable.
However, the ground-level effectiveness of these calculations remains uncertain. The ruling Congress party, led by Revanth Reddy, has been actively engaging with the public through initiatives like Prajavani and the implementation of Six Guarantees. The government’s prompt response to issues has garnered support. Amidst these developments, doubts linger about the BJP’s ability to secure ten seats in the parliamentary elections.
