No More Nandi Awards, Only Gaddar Awards

Telangana government, led by CM Revanth Reddy has decided to richly honour revolutionary vocalist, Gaddar. After commissioning the assembly of Gaddar’s statue at Tank Bund, Revanth has announced that the age-old Nandi Awards will undergo a name change and will be called “Gaddar Awards” henceforth.

Nandi Awards were given to esteemed artists and it was an annual tradition before state division. After the bifurcation, the BRS government didn’t carry on the awards tradition in its 10-year tenure. The new CM, Revanth is reviving the tradition to reward worthy exponents of films, traditional dance forms, music, and other art forms.

Revanth has used this occasion to rename the Nandi Awards as Gaddar Awards. Gaddar is one of the most prominent artists in Telangana’s cultural history and this is one to appreciate the late legend. The name change bill will first have to be approved by the cabinet, passed in the assembly, and then approved by the governor. Revanth has taken this responsibility on himself. The CM confirmed that Gaddar Awards event will be held on January 31st every year.
