Modi Announces Bharat Ratna to LK Advani

One of the senior most politicians in India, and an integral part of BJP’s rise to the top, LK Advani is set to be conferred with the prestigious Bharat Ratna award. Prime Minister Narendra Modi confirmed the news a few minutes ago through social media.

Modi has announced that he communicated with Advani about him being conferred with Bharat Ratna, the highest civilian award in India. “I am very happy to share that Shri LK Advani Ji will be conferred the Bharat Ratna. I also spoke to him and congratulated him on being conferred this honor. One of the most respected statesmen of our times, his contribution to the development of India is monumental.” Modi tweeted on this matter.

For those who don’t know, Advani was actually born in Karachi, Pakistan, and his family migrated to India after the partition. He joined BJP’s parent group, RSS in 1941, at the age of just 14. He entered the Lok Sabha in 1989 and was later given the esteemed rank of minister of Home Affairs and Deputy Prime Minister in 1999. He already holds the Padma Vibhushan, the second highest civilian award, and will soon be the recipient of Bharat Ratna, the highest recognition for a civilian in India.
