BJP Ignores AP MPs: Alliance Back On Cards?

Andhra Pradesh BJP wing has been throwing mixed signals about the idea of allying with Telugu Desam and Janasena. After Chandrababu met Amit Shah in Delhi last month, it looked like the alliance was certain, but later, BJP started preparing for 175 MLA seats and 25 MP seats on their own, hiring that they are going alone.

But there was a significant political derivative that happened today which hints that the alliance with TDP and Janasena is back on the cards.

BJP central wing announced 195 MPs for the general election and 9 of them are from Telangana. But not a single MP from AP has been mentioned in the list, making AP one of the very few major states not to feature on the list.

Political experts are of the opinion that the BJP ignoring AP candidates and not announcing a single one of them could be an indication that the BJP is still open for alliance talks.

There are several aspirants for BJP MP tickets in AP, including Purandeshwari, Sujana Chowdary, Somu Veerraju, Vishnu Vardhan Reddy, and CM Ramesh but none of them were announced by the BJP today. This is directly in alignment with TDP and Janasena reserving a few seats for BJP as a part of the seat distribution in case the party comes along.

Whatever might be BJP’s stand on the alliance, it needs to be made public soon as this waiting game and mixed signals will be of no help to BJP themselves or TDP and Janasena.
