Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is presenting the Union Budget 2025-26 in the Parliament today. There are expectations on this budget to reduce the tax burden on middle-class people who are struggling with high prices and stagnant wages. This is the eighth consecutive year, that Nirmala Sitharaman is presenting the budget, placed only next to Moraraji Desai, who presented 10 union budgets as a Finance Minister.
Nirmala Sitharaman met President Draupadi Murmu ahead of the budget presentation today. The budget presentation was started at 11 am this morning and is currently underway.
At the beginning of her speech, Nirmala Sitharaman stated that the budget continues the government’s efforts to accelerate growth, secure inclusive development, encourage private investments, uplift household sentiments and improve the spending power of India’s rising middle class.
She asserted that the current budget focuses on six main domains, which are Taxation, Power sector, Urban Development, Mining, the Financial sector and Regulatory reforms.
