Kadapa district, a stronghold of the YSR family, is witnessing a political shake-up. For over four decades, the YSR family has maintained tight control over this region. Even after the demise of YS Rajasekhar Reddy, Jagan managed to carry forward the legacy through the YSR Congress Party. However, the situation seems to be changing rapidly after the 2024 elections.
Several key YSRCP leaders in Kadapa are now distancing themselves from the party. Many second-rung leaders have either gone silent or switched over to opposition parties, creating a shortage of active workers in some constituencies.
One such development took place in the Mydukuru constituency on Thursday. Chandra, who has been serving as the Municipal Chairman of Mydukuru and a senior YSRCP leader, submitted his resignation to the party. Though he had been inactive for a while, his decision to quit came as a surprise.
Chandra is considered a well-connected leader in the Mydukuru town and enjoys notable support in nearby rural areas as well. His appointment as the Municipal Chairman was seen as a reward for his local influence during YSRCP’s reign.
Raghurami Reddy, who won two consecutive terms of MLA from Mydukuru, was defeated in 2024. Post-defeat, he reportedly distanced himself from party activities, leaving grassroots leaders like Chandra feeling abandoned. Disheartened by the lack of support from senior leaders, Chandra decided to step away from the YSR Congress Party.
