The devastating bus fire accident that occurred near Kurnool on the Hyderabad-Bengaluru Highway claimed 20 lives and has sent shockwaves among the public. Concerns are now being raised about night travel on private buses and the safety issues associated with them.
In this context, former Telangana RTC MD and the current Commissioner of Hyderabad City Police, V.C. Sajjanar, issued a strong statement.
In his detailed social media post, Sajjanar stated that the horrific Kurnool bus incident, which took the lives of 20 innocent people, was not an accident in the true sense. He described it as a preventable massacre caused by the reckless and irresponsible behaviour of an intoxicated biker.
The biker, identified as B. Shiva Shankar, was under the influence of alcohol, as CCTV footage showed him refuelling his motorcycle at 2:24 a.m., just minutes before he lost control and triggered the devastating collision at 2:39 a.m. His decision to drive drunk turned a moment of arrogance into a tragedy of unimaginable scale, Sajjanar pointed out.
The senior police official further stated that he would take this incident as a benchmark to enforce stricter regulations in Hyderabad.
“We are adopting a zero-tolerance stance against drunk driving. Every single person caught driving under the influence will face the full force of the law. There will be no leniency, no exceptions and no mercy for those who endanger innocent lives,” he affirmed.
It appears that the horrifying Kurnool accident has triggered a serious response in Hyderabad, as the new Commissioner is set to crack down heavily on drunk driving henceforth.
