Amaravati has once again come into political focus after YSRCP chief Jagan Mohan Reddy made fresh comments against the state capital. This comes at a time when the government is moving forward with a bill in Parliament to give Amaravati legal recognition as the capital.
Jagan claimed that the capital is being built in a river basin and said the Supreme Court should look into the matter. His remarks have upset many people in Amaravati and AP people, who feel this is another attempt to create problems for the capital city.
Repeating his old statements, Jagan said there is no clear meaning of a capital and that any place where the Chief Minister sits can be called the capital. He also questioned how a capital can be built in a riverbed area, saying that even normal buildings are not allowed in such places.
He further criticised the TDP government, saying Amaravati does not have basic facilities like proper roads, drinking water, and electricity. Jagan also referred to Amaravati as a so called capital, which many locals felt was insulting, especially to farmers who gave their land for the project.
Earlier, Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy had said that the party had no objection to Amaravati being the capital. Jagan himself had also made similar comments in the past. However, his latest statements show a clear change in his stand, leading to criticism from political circles.
With these new remarks, the debate over Amaravati has heated up again. As legal steps continue, Jagan’s comments have added more tension to an already sensitive issue.
