Sudarshan Reddy is once again in political discussions in Telangana. After previously contesting the Vice Presidential election as the opposition alliance candidate and falling short, his name is now being considered for a Rajya Sabha seat.
The Election Commission of India has announced the schedule for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections. Polling will be conducted for 37 seats across 10 states, including Telangana. With these seats set to become vacant in April, political activity has picked up pace.
In Telangana, two Rajya Sabha seats are falling vacant. Going by the current strength in the Assembly, both seats are expected to go to the Congress party. This has led to speculation over who the party leadership will nominate. Sources indicate that one seat could be given to a national level Congress leader, while the other may be allotted to a candidate with Telangana roots.
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy is believed to have discussed Sudarshan Reddy’s possible candidature with the party high command during a recent visit to Delhi. However, it remains to be seen whether Sudarshan Reddy is willing to enter active parliamentary politics.
Meanwhile, Vem Narender Reddy, who is said to be close to the Chief Minister, is also reportedly in the race.
It is worth noting that CP Radhakrishnan, who had contested against Sudarshan Reddy in the Vice Presidential election, went on to become the Vice President and currently serves as the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha. Whether Sudarshan Reddy will now enter the same House as a member remains a question that only the coming days can answer.
