Former MLA and senior TDP leader Varma expressed anger at municipal officials in Pithapuram after noticing that a very small photo of Chandrababu Naidu was used at a government programme.
Varma said it was insulting to place the Chief Minister’s picture in such a tiny size. He warned that party leaders and workers would not tolerate any disrespect towards their leader.
While attending the Swachhandhra training programme, Varma observed that Naidu’s photo was either missing or placed very small. He said similar incidents were noticed earlier during Sankranti celebrations as well. According to him, removing or reducing the Chief Minister’s photo in official events sends a wrong message to party cadre.
Varma said he tried to control his anger at the venue, but TDP workers were very upset over the issue. He added that officials should not create unnecessary tensions in a government where alliance partners are expected to work together for many years.
The development has also sparked discussion because Pithapuram is represented by Pawan Kalyan. Varma himself had stepped aside during the elections and supported Pawan Kalyan’s candidature, working actively for his victory.
At the leadership level, Chief Minister Naidu, Nara Lokesh and Pawan Kalyan have been maintaining a close and coordinated relationship. However, some party workers feel that over enthusiastic actions by a few local leaders or officials sometimes create avoidable friction on the ground.
Many believe such issues are not decisions taken by Pawan Kalyan personally, but rather lapses by local organisers or officials handling programmes. Political observers say local leaders and authorities must be more careful in alliance areas to prevent such controversies and maintain harmony among cadre.
With Pawan Kalyan himself talking about a long term political understanding, ensuring mutual respect at the ground level is seen as important for the alliance to run smoothly in the coming years.
