During the previous Parliamentary sessions, it was widely expected that the union government would recognise Amaravati as the permanent capital of Andhra Pradesh. The Andhra Pradesh delegation had extensively pushed for the same at the central level, but the union government asked for a written statement on this matter.
In reaction to the same, the government of Andhra Pradesh presented a historic mandate in the assembly today as they officially notified Amaravati as the permanent capital of the state.
Incidentally, Andhra Pradesh Assembly was specially convened today to notify Amaravati as the permanent capital and this announcement was made by chief minister Chandrababu himself.
Chandrababu Naidu addressed the assembly house today and said Amaravati is officially notified as the permanent capital in order to ensure the complete progress of the state. This presentation was made at an official capacity, and it is likely to be approved by the Assembly shortly.
For those wondering, what is the need for this legislation and presentation in the assembly, thus is largely due to the previous misdeeds of the Jagan government , which had ridiculed with thee capitals proposal. This new announcement on Amaravati in the AP Assembly, today is a big step towards cementing the much needed capital of the state.
Once this presentation is approved in the Andhra Pradesh, Assembly, the file is likely to move the Parliament and union government is scheduled to approve the same, which would issue a gazette notification on the permanent recognition of Amaravati. And once that is done, any subsequent government cannot have the legality to shift the capital elsewhere.
