A leader staying in power for nearly 15 years usually builds a strong personal life with assets, properties, and comforts. But Mamata Banerjee is a completely different case.
Even after ruling a big state like West Bengal for so long, she still does not have a house in her name. She does not own land. She does not even have a personal car. This is what came out again in her latest election affidavit.
Her total assets are also very low compared to most politicians. She has only around 15 lakh worth movable assets. This includes some cash, bank balance, and a very small amount of gold. In fact, the gold she owns is less than 10 grams.
She does not have big investments, businesses, or hidden wealth. She also has no major loans. Her income mainly comes from book royalties and bank interest, which is quite simple for someone in such a powerful position.
Another interesting point is that her assets have actually reduced slightly compared to the last election. This clearly shows she is not focused on building wealth even after staying in power for years.
This kind of lifestyle is very rare in Indian politics today. Many leaders are often criticized for growing rich after coming to power. But Mamata’s case is different.
Supporters say this proves she is honest and lives a very basic life. Critics may still question her governance, but when it comes to personal wealth, there is very little to point at.
