South Indian politics are heavily dominated by regional parties and particularly so in the Telugu states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. This is again on display if we look at the financial matters associated with the Telugu Desam party and YSR Congress as per financial year 2024-25.
In terms of highest volume of accumulated funds, it is the TDP, which is the richest regional party in the country. But when it comes to expenditure, the YSR Congress has spent above its income index, which is again a matter of interest.
With regard to the total declared assets, the Telugu Desam Party is ahead on the charts with the highest declared income at ₹228 crore. The yellow party is closely followed by Trinamool Congress at ₹219 crore and YSR Congress Party at ₹140 crore.
Considering the near 5 decade long journey of the TDP ecosystem, this massive income portfolio is always on the cards. It is interesting to know that YSR Congress is one of the youngest yet most financially settled parties in the country.
The interesting observation is that YSR Congress, which earned around ₹140 crore in the previous year had spent over ₹340 crore which is nearly 200 crore more than what it gained. This is a significant number for the Jagan party.
It is interesting to see that the two leading regional parties from Andhra Pradesh have started to dominate the charts of highest income and also expenditure.
