It is well known that the Indian government, under the leadership of Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari, is aggressively pushing to phase out conventional fossil fuels in favor of 100% ethanol blended petrol to reduce massive fuel import bills and cut carbon emissions.
This move has already triggered a huge debate among the public across the country because several complaints are being raised over the reduction of mileage and engine related issues ever since this transition was introduced.
But, Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari has been trying to downplay these complaints by defending the government’s move. He recently claimed that not even a single complaint received about mileage issues and challenged critics to identify even one vehicle that has truly suffered engine failure due to the new blend.
Adding fuel to the ongoing controversy, Gadkari once again came under attack for his latest statements during an interview to a national media.
When the anchor revealed that the mileage of her car dropped considerably from 11 km per litre to 7 km per litre after using ethanol blended fuel, Gadkari questioned her on how she checked the mileage. The anchor replied that she counted the mileage like everyone does.
Gadkari then came up with a technical counter that mileage of a vehicle can be checked by a company authorised dealer’s machine. He also suggested that public should confirm from the dealer whether the reduction is due to ethanol based fuel and then go to consumer court for redressal.
These statements from the Minister have now become a talking point on social media and sparked severe backlash on the government for coming up with technical answers instead of addressing the genuine feedback from the public.
