The BJP had lost one of its structurally integral leaders in South India in the form of Annamalai earlier in June. He immediately quit the BJP after the horrifying performance in the Tamil Nadu assembly election, which gave remarkably humbling results to the saffron party.
While everyone expected Annamalai to be the chief minister candidate for the BJP in Tamil Nadu, it turned out to be that he did not even contest the election in the first place.
However, several months after the departure from the BJP, Annamalai has finally spoken about the reasons why he has decided to part ways with the party. This reasoning that was given by the young leader is of great concerned to the BJP at the fundamental level.
Annamalai pointed out that the BJP was operating almost entirely from Delhi at the central level, as there was no importance that was being given to the local leaders from Tamil Nadu. He pointed out that all the decision making was done from the high command with no regard for the local leaders here.
Originally, Annamalai was supposed to leave the BJP even before the assembly election, but the high command wanted him to stay with the party to maintain public image. But this along, it could also not change the mind of Annamalai as he eventually decided to quit the party this year.
The fact that one of the most prospective leaders for BJP in Tamil Nadu has quit the party in the name of bad decision-making could be very bad news to the saffron party in southern India. This perhaps reflect the abysmal performance of the BJP in Tamil Nadu, where it secured one single assembly seat.
