The chief minister of Tamil Nadu, Vijay has been trying to deliver transparent and efficient government to the people of the state who backed him overwhelmingly in his first ever campaign.
However, there are certain things that can go beyond the reach of the chief minister, and we appear to be witnessing something similar now.
It is already known that chief minister Vijay has instructed to move his office to the adjacent building to the current office so that he can stay in the same enclosure as senior officials. This was a genuine attempt to stay closer to administrative individuals so that he can be on the job all the time.
So this new office began to witness renovations in order to meet the requirements of being the CM Office. However, this is precisely where there are a series of allegations of corruption in the assembly of this new CMO.
Contrary to the TVK govt’s claim and promise of transparency in tenders, the 5.54 crore tender for chief minister’s 10th floor Sea-View office at Namakkal Kavignar Maligai is being reportedly executed in secrecy and has deviated from mandatory tender rules.
Apparently, none of the three tenders that were received for the renovation of this office were published online. This is against the regulation of publishing every single tender(over Rs 2 crore ) detail online.
Another allegation is that even before the tender process began, dismantling and other works had started at the new office, indicating finalisation of a contractor before any tender was floated.
On top of that, it is being alleged that the value of this renovation was not clearly mentioned in the order that was executed, meaning there is chance for discrepancies here.
This new CM Office has started to invite negative attention due to these allegations. However, Vijay has been fully committed to transparent governance till now. So it should be a matter of time before he looks into this issue and gets to the root cause of it.
