TPCC Chief Mahesh Kumar Goud asked Chief Minister Revanth Reddy to taste natural toddy and support the traditional toddy-tapping profession in Telangana.
Goud said, “CM sir, you do not drink brandy or whisky. At least once, drink kallu (toddy) and taste it. Kallu is like nectar, and Bhatti garu knows about that nectar.” He also said that the toddy-tapping profession is facing difficulties today and urged the government to take steps to protect the workers and their livelihoods.
Goud was speaking at the unveiling of the statue of Sardar Sarvai Papanna Goud in Hyderabad. He praised Revanth Reddy for giving importance to Bahujan leaders and their history. He said the statue of Sardar Sarvai Papanna was placed at an important location so that people visiting the Secretariat and Hyderabad could see it and remember his courage and achievements.
He also praised the Congress government for giving importance to leaders such as Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and Mahatma Jyotirao Phule. Goud said statues and memorials of great leaders can inspire the younger generation and remind people about their contribution to society.
Speaking about the Goud community, Goud said many families in Telangana still depend on toddy tapping for their livelihood. He asked the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister to provide proper support, welfare measures and financial assistance to protect the traditional occupation.
He said modernization should not lead to the disappearance of traditional professions. The government should help toddy-tapping families continue their work with dignity and better economic security.
Goud also expressed confidence in the support of the Goud community for the Congress government. He said protecting traditional livelihoods and respecting the history of Bahujan leaders should remain important priorities for the government.
