Telangana CM Revanth Reddy’s planned visit to the US has hit a roadblock after the Ministry of External Affairs reportedly denied political clearance for his US leg. Revanth had embarked on a 10 day UK and US tour on August 20.
Revanth Reddy was scheduled to travel from London to Boston as part of the overseas tour. However, his office said he will now return to Hyderabad from London on August 23 following the denial of permission.
The Chief Minister’s Office is reportedly seeking clarity from MEA officials over the reasons behind the decision. The stated reason for the denial is that clearance from the political angle has not been granted.
Despite the setback, CM Revanth has decided not to halt the official delegation’s US programme. He instructed the Telangana Rising delegation to continue with the planned meetings and engagements in America.
The delegation is expected to hold discussions with leading educational institutions, including Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Northeastern University and Virginia Tech.
The delegation will also focus on signing business and academic MoUs during the US visit. Meanwhile, Revanth’s unexpected return from London has added a political twist to what was planned as a major international outreach programme for Telangana.
