A small dispute over a missing mobile phone at a nursing college in Kakinada reportedly snowballed into a tense confrontation between Northeast and local students. What began as a hostel issue soon required the intervention of senior district officials, bringing the matter into sharp focus.
The incident took place at SK College of Nursing after a mobile phone belonging to a Northeast student was reported missing. The disagreement between students from the Northeast, including Manipur, and Telugu speaking students subsequently escalated, with some students reportedly sustaining injuries.
As tensions increased, protests were reported from both sides and the authorities decided to separate the students as a precaution. Students from the Northeast were shifted to separate accommodation, while 31 students from other states were also moved to another hostel with their consent.
The issue soon reached the highest level in the state. Chief Minister Chandrababu reviewed the situation and directed senior officials to resolve the matter immediately, with the District Collector and Superintendent of Police stepping in to ensure the safety of the students.
Following the Chief Minister’s instructions, officials made arrangements for the students’ security and took steps to prevent any further escalation. The students from Manipur later thanked the authorities for their intervention and said they were safe after being shifted to separate accommodation. The situation has since been brought under control, according to the administration.
