Can Konda Family Survive In BJP?

Konda Murali and Konda Surekha have been associated with almost every major political party in Telangana, except the BJP. With tensions rising within the Telangana Congress and recent controversy surrounding their daughter’s remarks, the couple appears to be sending subtle signals about having a Plan B.

There is growing political buzz that the Konda couple has been quietly reaching out to senior BJP leaders. Top leaders are also reportedly responded cautiously to speculation over Surekha joining the BJP, saying that she would first have to resign from her party and ministerial post before anything could be considered.

From the BJP’s perspective, the Konda couple could bring considerable political value in erstwhile Warangal. Surekha has a strong mass image and could emerge as a prominent BC woman face for the party. Their financial strength and local cadre network could also give the BJP a boost across parts of North Telangana.

But the bigger question is whether the Konda family style of politics can actually fit into the BJP system. The party’s strict discipline, RSS influence and highly centralised decision making leave limited room for individual political styles. The couple has already been vocal against their own government while being in the Congress.

The Konda couple has also changed political affiliations in the past, moving from Congress to YSRCP, then BRS and eventually returning to Congress. This history naturally raises questions about how long they could remain committed to another political platform.

If the Konda couple does eventually choose the BJP, it could certainly create a political buzz in Warangal. But whether it becomes a long term partnership or merely a temporary political arrangement will depend on how comfortably both sides adjust to each other.
