Mood Of The Nation Survey: Vijay Enters Top Three PM Choices

The latest India Today CVoter Mood of the Nation survey has given an interesting picture of India’s political mood. PM Narendra Modi continues to be the most preferred choice for the next Prime Minister, while Congress leader Rahul Gandhi remains in second place.

According to the August 2026 survey, Modi is the choice of 48.7 percent of respondents. Rahul Gandhi gets 27.1 percent support. The biggest surprise is Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and TVK chief C Joseph Vijay, who has entered the top three with 9.2 percent.

Vijay’s rise is notable because he entered electoral politics only recently. His position ahead of several experienced political leaders shows that his popularity is now extending beyond Tamil Nadu.

The survey also looked at who people consider the best person to lead the Opposition alliance. Rahul Gandhi remained ahead with 29 percent, while Vijay was again among the top names with 12.2 percent. Mamata Banerjee, Arvind Kejriwal and Akhilesh Yadav followed him.

The survey also asked people about the Lok Sabha election if it were held today. The BJP led NDA is projected to win 326 seats, while the INDIA bloc is projected to get 185 seats. The NDA has a clear majority, although its projected numbers have come down compared with the January 2026 survey.

The August 2026 Mood of the Nation survey was conducted by CVoter. It directly covered 25,184 people between July 1 and August 25, along with 91,795 interviews from CVoter’s regular tracking over the previous six months.

Overall, the survey shows Modi continuing to dominate the PM race, Rahul Gandhi holding the second position and Vijay emerging as the surprise new face in the national political conversation.
