Telangana Minister Ponnam Gets SIR Notices

Telangana Transport and BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar has received a notice from election officials as part of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

The notice was issued by the Booth Level Officer (BLO) after an error was found in the name of the minister’s father in the voter list.

Ponnam Prabhakar responded to the notice and submitted the required documents to the BLO to get his father’s name corrected in the electoral records.

Ponnam is currently representing the Husnabad Assembly constituency in Siddipet district. Earlier, he served as the Karimnagar MP from 2009 to 2014. Started his career as a student leader, Ponnam has been a senior Congress leader.

Congress leaders across the country have been vocal about the SIR and leveling allegations against the ruling NDA leaders for removing the votes of opposition parties and their supporters.

What is SIR?

For the beginners, SIR is an exercise to verify and update voter lists. It is carried out to correct errors and ensure that eligible voters are properly included in the electoral rolls. During the process, voters may be asked to provide documents or information when discrepancies are found. If not submitted in the stipulated time, their votes could be removed by the Election Commission.
