Google’s ambitious AI hub in Visakhapatnam is moving ahead with construction already underway. The company officially broke ground on the 1 GW AI data centre project in April this year.
Google now expects the first phase of the project to be completed within 24 to 30 months, with initial operations likely to begin by late 2028.
The company has planned the entire AI hub as a major digital infrastructure project, combining data centres, renewable energy, power transmission and high speed connectivity.
According to Google executive Alexander Smith, all phases of the 1 GW data centre are targeted for completion within five years. The overall investment is part of Google’s $15 billion commitment to India between 2026 and 2030.
The Vizag AI hub is expected to significantly strengthen Andhra Pradesh’s position in the country’s growing AI and data centre ecosystem.
