Hyderabad could soon get a new world-class cricket stadium in Telangana’s proposed Future City. The state government is working on plans for a massive international cricket venue, with the foundation stone likely to be laid in December 2026.
The proposed stadium is expected to have a seating capacity of more than 1.32 lakh, which is the capacity of Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium. If completed as planned, it could become one of the biggest cricket stadiums in the world.
The stadium is being planned as a global sporting landmark, with its design expected to take inspiration from famous cricket venues such as Lord’s in England and leading stadiums in Australia.
The Telangana government is expected to provide the required land, while the BCCI is likely to support the construction and maintenance of the stadium. Discussions are reportedly underway on a joint development and management model between the BCCI and the Telangana government.
Why Future City?
The proposed location in Future City is seen as a major advantage. The area will have connectivity to the Outer Ring Road, the proposed Regional Ring Road, Rajiv Gandhi International Airport and the planned Metro Rail expansion.
The stadium is also expected to become an important part of the Sports City planned in Future City. It could support Telangana’s plans to promote sports, tourism and the larger Net-Zero City vision.
If the project moves forward as planned, the new stadium could give Hyderabad a major boost on the international cricket map and strengthen the city’s position as a global sports destination.
