Want To Know Exact Ethanol At Bunks? Not Happening Now!

For the last few months, all of India has been raising the voice against the blending of ethanol in commercial petrol. While this narrative has been consistently growing, there are certain appeals that are being made at the Supreme Court.

In one such new appeal that was made in front of the Supreme Court today, it was mentioned that petrol pumps across the country must be mandated to display the exact percentage of ethanol in the petrol they’re selling.

However, this interesting litigation did not receive a positive reaction from the Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court refused to entertain the PIL seeking a directive to the Centre to ensure mandatory and uniform labelling on every dispensing nozzle at petrol pumps, disclosing the exact percentage of ethanol in petrol.

A bench of Justices MM Sundresh and PB Varale said it is not going to entertain the PIL under Article 32 and the petitioner Narendra Kumar Goswami can approach the jurisdictional high court for relief.

Attorney General R Venkataramani, appearing for the Centre, submitted that it is a proxy litigation as a petition on a similar issue has been dismissed by the court.

This is an interesting verdict from the apex judicial body, considering that all of India has been raising the voice against the blend of ethanol. Also, this comes shortly after the centre had recently acknowledged it that the blending of ethanol will marginally bring down the mileage of the vehicle by around 5%.
