The previous YS Jagan administration was very proud about the implementation of the Nadu Nedu program. There were extensive efforts to enhance the basic infrastructure government schools, which is an appreciable gesture.
However, when it came to the actual results in terms of increasing the literacy rate, this is where the previous Jagan government could not show any impact.
In fact, Andhra Pradesh had one of the lowest literacy rates for any Indian states in the country. But things are changing interestingly, after the arrival of the NDA government as Nara Lokesh has made it a point to enhance the education system.
Now Andhra Pradesh has gone from a literacy rate of 72.6% in 2024 to a very impressive 82.1% in 2026. Nearly 10% increment in a span of couple of years is truly remarkable in every which way.
It needs to be said that the education ministry under Lokesh has been doing a pretty strong job when it comes to enrolment and successful graduation of government school students. The results are there to be seen in terms of numbers and literacy rate.
We were among the lowest in India in 2024 when I took charge of the education department. The transformation that we are creating is truly historic. My best wishes to the department for running a massive literacy field program, and every teacher who has been part of this mission, Lokesh posted on the occasion.
Around 25 lakh people have become literate through Akshara Andhra. And we’re not stopping here. Our goal: 100% literacy by September 2027, he further added.
Enhancing the literacy rate is a positive blessing for any state, and Andhra Pradesh is finally witnessing this demographic now.
