It has been a little over 100 days since Thalapathy Vijay created history in Tamil Nadu by becoming the CM of the state is very first attempt. He is already a man on a mission when it comes to delivering solid governance in Tamil Nadu.
Now the stage is set for the first big test for Vijay as the chief minister of Tamil Nadu, as the state is preparing for the upcoming by election shortly.
The Election Commission has announced bye-elections for five Assembly constituencies in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and West Bengal, and one Parliamentary constituency in Assam. Polling will be held on October 6, 2026, with counting on October 9.
Interestingly, the Election Commission decided to hold by-elections for only 2 of the 7 vacant Assembly seats in Tamil Nadu, Madurantakam and Dharapuram.
By-polls for the remaining 5 constituencies (6 previously won by AIADMK, 1 by TVK chief C. Joseph Vijay in Trichy East) remain on hold due to pending court cases challenging victory election petitions.
This is going to be a reverberating public mandate on the first 100 days of Vijay’s regime in Tamil Nadu. This will be regarded as the first major public reaction on Vijay who happens to be in the CM office for the first time.
On paper, this election might look straightforward as there will be no real anti-incumbency for the Vijay government as of now. But at the same time, Tamil Nadu public is extremely cut throat when it comes to delivering their public mandate so anything can happen anytime.
