Criminal Areas Voted More Than Educated Localities: Gadkari

Of late, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has been frequently grabbing the media spotlight with his controversial remarks. His recent statements on getting more votes from areas with criminals than educated people have once again triggered widespread debate in the public.

During an event in Nagpur, the Road Transport and Highway Minster said that he got nearly 92 percent votes from criminal and red light areas in his city and only 70 to 75 percent votes from highly educated localities. This statement surprised many people present at the media conclave.

The senior leader however quickly clarified his intention. He said getting votes from these criminal areas does not mean he supports illegal work or underworld people. He explained that people in these poor and tough areas voted for him because he did real work like making good roads and taking up social welfare projects.

Gadkari also spoke about how educated people act during election time. He pointed out that educated citizens often give long lectures about saving the country but they fail to go and vote on election day. He said that voter turnout in reach and educated areas is often low which is a big issue for democracy.

He admitted that during his long political life he did many experiments including bad things and caste politics to win elections. But later he realized that such tactics only make trouble and do not bring real political success. He said credibility and trust are the most important things in politics just like in business.

Though Gadkari might have made a candid revelation about his political career and how masses from illegal background supported him for his good work, the remarks have gone viral all over in the public forums and social media platforms.
