Why Chinna Srinu’s Exit Matters So Much For Jagan?

The political atmosphere in Uttarandhra region of Andhra Pradesh has taken an unexpected turn with the sudden exit of Majji Srinivas Rao (Chinna Srinu) from YSRCP. He has reportedly tendered his resignation to both the Vizianagaram president post and also the in-charge and party coordinator duties of Bheemili constituency with immediate effect.

What is more shocking is that Chinna Srinu, who is the nephew of former Minister and current MLC Botsa Satyanarayana, a key leader for YSRCP in coastal Andhra region, has wasted no time and shifted his loyalties to the ruling Telugu Desam Party after meeting Chandrababu Naidu just after sending his resignation letter to YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.

The development has sparked a huge debate among political circles because Chinna Srinu is believed to be a trusted lieutenant of YS Jagan. Very few leaders have direct access to Jagan and Chinna Srinu is among them who can straightaway call or meet the former CM.

Though Botsa Satyanarayana held various key ministerial posts in the last two decades of his political journey, Chinna Srinu has always called shots in Vizianagaram district. He previously served as the Chairman of Zilla Parishad. Whatever party Botsa represented, Srinu maintained complete control of the district affairs during his heydays.

Despite pulling the strings in YSRCP as far as Vizianagaram politics given his affinity with Jagan, Srinu never contested in a direct election so far. In the meantime, some differences have cropped up with his uncle Botsa Satyanarayana over the former’s diminishing relevance in the party in the last couple of years.

As per his close associates, Chinna Srinu is not happy with playing second fiddle to Botsa Satyanarayana and continue his reputation as a shadow leader throughout his career. He believes that his uncle is not allowing him to grow politically.

Another reason why Srinu chose to come out of YSRCP is because of the fact that Botsa is planning to field his daughter in the next elections. This might be another sticking point for his political future. All these reasons might have contributed to the decision taken by Srinu.

This will no doubt be a big blow for YS Jagan in the key coastal Andhra region where his party suffered a humiliating defeat in the 2024 elections by not winning a single seat in all three districts.
