No Job? Drive An E-Rickshaw, Says Deputy CM!

Uttar Pradesh Deputy CM Brajesh Pathak’s advice to youngsters looking for jobs has triggered a debate on social media. Speaking at the launch of Bharat Taxi in Lucknow on September 23, Pathak suggested that instead of waiting endlessly for a job, youngsters could consider driving an e-rickshaw or taxi and earn independently.

Pathak said owning and driving a vehicle can provide an income while also giving people more flexibility to spend time with their families. He suggested that a person could drive for a few hours in the morning, return home to spend time with children and resume driving later in the evening.

His remarks have received mixed reactions. Some questioned why young people seeking employment were being advised to take up driving instead of discussing better job opportunities. Samajwadi Party MP Pushpendra Saroj also criticised the comments, saying the youth who should be contributing to the country’s growth were being asked to drive rickshaws.

At the same time, others argued that self-employment can also be a practical option for those struggling to find regular jobs. Pathak made the comments at an event linked to Bharat Taxi, a cooperative ride-hailing service designed to include drivers as members and partners. The platform is expected to offer taxi as well as two-wheeler and three-wheeler services.
