It’s Happening: No More Social Media For Kids Under 18 In India?

Several countries across the globe have been taking big decisions with regard to social media usage policies. Australia had recently announced that kids under 18 years of age will not be allowed to use social media, and this is actively in enforcement.

Now the government of India is contemplating same decision and the centre has instructed the IT department to prepare the framework for the same.

The Centre has said it will move to amend the IT regulations to prevent children below 18 from opening social-media accounts. The move follows the Supreme Court’s concerns over minors’ access to social-media platforms and the need for stronger safeguards.

Reportedly, the Centre is contemplating tighter social media rules for minors. The government has told the Supreme Court that it will amend the IT Rules to bar children under 18 from independently creating accounts on social media platforms.

If this comes to implementation, then kids under 18 years of age will not be permitted to create social media accounts and access these platforms.

This is in view of all the detrimental content that’s being circulated on socials these days and the kind of negative effect it can have on the younger population at large.
