The bilateral relationship between India and the United States has been taking interesting twists and turns in the recent past. There is a lot of volatility in this space due to the extreme tariffs that are being imposed by United States president, Donald Trump.
Union finance Minister Nirmala Sitaraman has spoken about the trade deal between India and the United States and she sounded pessimistic about the same.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman says, “The agreement’s negotiations are still ongoing, although we’d like to believe that both sides have reached a plateau, beyond which giving or taking might be very, very difficult. But maybe if there are rooms to operate from, both sides would do it.”
But what is the predominant feature of the trade relations between India and US is that the trade balance is very much in our favor. Naturally, the deficit is there in their side, or the balance is going unfavorably for the US, she added.
The fact that the union finance minister has said the negotiation between India and United States has hit a plateau and it is hard to give or take from here could be an indication of what is to come.
On one hand, Trump is extremely particular about imposing tariffs and looking to suspend the relations between India and Russia. This is not in the good interests of India, and hence the conflict has become extremely prevalent to the degree that all negotiations could be halted anytime.
