The results in the by election are always indicative of the public mandate on the incumbent government. They are naturally in favour of the ruling party but nevertheless, a negative result could seriously crumble the entire government.
But in the case of Tamil Nadu chief minister Vijay, who is operating as the CM for the first time after having secured remarkable win in the assembly election earlier in May, he is successful in this by poll fight.
As we had reported earlier today, Tamil Nadu witnessed two by elections, Dharapuram and Maduranthakam constituencies. The fundamental factor here is that the Dharapuram constituency was significantly against the TVK despite the Vijay wave in Tamil Nadu.
Notably, the Dharapuram constituency was lost by the TVK by a margin of more than 40,000 votes in the earlier assembly election. But this seat has now been captured by the TVK with a remarkable win of more than 10,000 votes.
The majority in the Madhurantakam constituency is also in the range of 15,000 votes which is fairly positive. It is evident that the people of Tamil Nadu are happy with the administration of Vijay.
But the point that must be kept in mind, here is that it has been barely six months since the formation of the new government under Vijay’s administration. The real challenge is going to be to continue this momentum for the next couple of years and go into the 2029 general election with the aim of winning majority MP seats.
