Famous YouTuber Dhruv Rathee has reportedly been detained by Gurugram Police ahead of the Cockroach Janta Party protest scheduled at Jantar Mantar in Delhi on Saturday. The protest is being held over alleged irregularities in electoral rolls and demands the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
The CJP has strongly condemned Rathee’s detention, calling it an attempt to silence voices questioning the electoral process. The party has demanded his immediate release along with other protesters and student activists reportedly taken into custody.
According to reports, police personnel reached Rathee’s residence in Gurugram’s Sector 56 on Saturday morning and detained him after he refused to stay away from the planned demonstration. Police cited restrictions and the absence of permission for the protest.
Rathee had reportedly travelled to the Delhi region to participate in the protest against the Chief Election Commissioner and the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. His planned participation had drawn attention ahead of the demonstration.
The detention comes amid heightened security across Delhi, with police taking preventive action against people attempting to reach the protest venue. Authorities have cited law and order concerns and the lack of official permission for the gathering.
The CJP has described the police action as a crackdown on democratic dissent and called for the release of all those detained. The party maintains that citizens should be allowed to raise questions about electoral procedures and demand accountability.
More details about Dhruv Rathee’s detention and the protest are awaited as the situation develops.
