Several thousands of arrests have been made in Delhi today to prevent the protest at the Jantar Mantar region. This is going to be a very detrimental development for the Indian political system as pressure is piling on the security authorities to release the detained individuals.
Now the United Nations human rights have reacted on the mass detention that have been happening in Delhi. They called for the immediate release of the individuals who have been arrested till now.
We are concerned by reports of mass detentions of demonstrators, protest leaders, members of civil society organisations, lawyers and journalists, before and during today’s large-scale demonstrations in Delhi.
We call on the authorities to ensure that the right to peaceful assembly is fully respected and fulfilled, the statement from the United Nations Human Rights Commission stated.
It is interesting to note that the human rights commission of the United Nations has reacted on the ongoing series of events in India. A few people comment that this is a matter of internal concern for India while others are siding with the human rights movement for voicing their opinion on thousands of arrests.
