CJP leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka have been sent to five days of judicial custody following their arrest over the anti CEC protests in Delhi. The police action has triggered fresh criticism from opposition leaders, with the controversy over the protest gaining further attention.
Congress MP, LoP Rahul Gandhi backed the protesters and criticised the action against CJP leaders. He questioned the treatment of those participating in demonstrations and argued that peacefully waving the national flag should not be treated as a crime.
The protests are aimed at Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, with opposition leaders raising allegations over voter lists and the Special Intensive Revision exercise. The Election Commission and the BJP have rejected the allegations.
Meanwhile, the police action against the CJP leaders has added to the political tensions surrounding the demonstrations. Opposition leaders have questioned the restrictions on protests and are considering their next course of action.
CJP leaders have vowed to continue their agitation demanding Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation. With Rahul Gandhi backing the protesters and opposition parties continuing to raise concerns over the electoral process, the issue is expected to remain a political talking point.
